There are many forms of yoga, one of which is hot yoga. A number of people are taking to this form of yoga, but are confused about the right type of clothes to be worn for a yoga session. It is important that one opts for comfortable yoga clothes, to ensure maximum efficiency in the sessions.

What is Hot Yoga?

The founder of hot yoga is Bikram Choudhary. Hence, it is also known as Bikram yoga. It was in the early 1970s' that this school of yoga became very popular. One can differentiate this school of yoga from the other schools of yoga in that it is practiced in a room, where the temperatures are as high as 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity is maintained at 40%. The high temperature and humidity leads to profuse sweating and warms the body as well. It is due to this fact, that this school of yoga is also referred to as hot yoga. There are a total of 26 yoga exercises that are practiced for 90 minutes in every session of hot yoga. Other than that it also includes two breathing exercises in every session. Since this form of yoga is practiced in controlled temperatures, the kind of clothes that are worn becomes important so that the session can be carried forth comfortably.

Type of Clothes

To derive the proper benefits of this form of yoga, it is important that one is dressed appropriately for the classes. Clothes that are used for practicing this yoga form are available in several fabrics like cotton, synthetic, hemp, and bamboo. It is best to stick to cotton fabrics as opposed to synthetic fabrics, as they absorb sweat and let the skin breathe well. It is advised that one focuses on the comfort factor rather than the cost factor when choosing these--the decision should not be based on whether the clothes are branded, or if they are cheap, but rather on how comfortable it is to don for long periods.

Yoga pants are an important aspect to consider when practicing the varied poses. The pants should be made from a lightweight, stretchable material--the stretchable material moves with the body, and thus practicing the different poses becomes easier. Along with that, ensure that there is a wide elastic waistband. In case your weight fluctuates, the drawstrings will ensure that the yoga pants have a comfortable fit. Many people choose to wear yoga shorts or capris for these sessions as well.

People often combine cotton t-shirts with comfortable pants. Many women also choose to wear tank tops or sports bras for these sessions.

Many opt for eco-friendly hot yoga clothes as well. Not only are these good for the earth, but they are extremely comfortable and functional as well.

Always opt for clothes that one is comfortable in. If you are uncomfortable in them, then chances are, that you will not enjoy your yoga class.
